A Historical Survey of Memes

Curated and Presented by the Duke of Frogtown

The so-called culture of the internet is a fickle beast that cannot be tamed nor understood by many. That is why the well-travelled gentleman and renowned scholar Duke of Frogtown has set out to help readers from all across the British Isles (chiefly England) learn about this mysterious, ethereal realm.

Written from the field by a factually reputable Duke, this chapbook allows one to learn the historical and cultural context of a selection of popular memes, presented alongside painstakingly-carved and accurately-printed renderings.

Such memes include:

  • This is fine.
  • Stonks.
  • And more

A copy of my finely-written and professionally-printed chapbook can be purchased on Etsy, along with a surprise print of one of the very memes covered in the book.

If you desire a look behind the curtain, you can read about the research, methodology, and practices that led to the creation of this booklet here at this article!

(More went into it than you probably think)

The zine's title page was printed with an actual printing press at the University of Pittsburgh, and all of the memes were cut from linoleum in my living room.  The zine itself was put together with Electric Zine Maker and is presented with Jeremy Orduber's EZM HTML5 reader.  All of the work is my own.

This was a really fun and goofy project. I hope you enjoy it :)
